Story

Thank you for reading my story.

My old battalion entered a mental walking challenge last year of 23K (14 miles in old money) over numerous high mountains in the Lake District. Not so hard for young fit soldiers I hear you say - probably true, but the team were all over 50 !! Such was their determination to win the over 50 category that two of the members of the team "beasted" themselves so hard that they have now "retired" from ever doing such things again!! This is when they approached me to see if I could help them retain their trophy this year. I love walking, but my golden rule is never ever do a walk over 10 mile, and if it involves going up mountains never above 8 miles - so when they approached me I said no way !! However, when they explained which charity they were raising money for (and they had bought me a couple of pints!) I was unable to say no!!  So I am now in a team made up of civilians, ex military and serving military who are under immense pressure to retain the over 50 trophy!

We are raising money for "Walking with the wounded" which is a fantastic charity whose main aim is to "support a pathway for vulnerable wounded service men and women to re-integrate back into society and sustain their independence. At the heart of this journey is employment."

The event we are taking part in is the Cumbrian Challenge  in May 2018 in Grassmere. There are 3 categories of challenge, ours is the Tough Route  - 23 km Over the hills and ridges in the Lake District.

The team is trying to raise £2000 so my target is one quarter of that ie £500, which if I am successful in doing my employers will match.

So please dig deep and support both myself and a really good cause. Many thanks in advance for your support 😊
