Story

This will be the second time that I have run the London Marathon. This time around I will be running in memory of Peter Linskey.

I had known Peter for over 20 years when he passed suddenly in November at the age of 52. Throughout his life he spent a lot of time with the scouting association instructing children in climbing, abseiling, orienteering and canoeing. Helping children who struggled, to achieve their full potential.

Though I did not meet Peter and become friends until my late teens, he taught me new skills and it was with him that I learnt to canoe, and then later climb. I have many memories of trips away with him and our friends. There was a time in our early twenties that every weekend a group of us would be away somewhere climbing, canoeing or walking. His philosophy in life was that his work should fit around his weekend activities and much of his spare time was always spent out of doors following one pursuit or another. Without Peter I doubt I would be leading the active lifestyle that I do today.

In memory of Peter I will be running for the Calvert Trust. This charity enables people with disabilities, together with their families and friends, to achieve their potential through the challenge of outdoor adventure in the countryside. Peter had a strong affinity with outdoor activities and supporting people. In 1991 he set up his own outdoor activities company in Hertfordshire delivering programmes very similar to those run by the Calvert trust, and so I feel that this charity conveys Peter's spirit and ethos and this is why I have chosen to run for them.

Your donation will provide a bursary fund for Hertfordshire, which enable someone disabled and disadvantaged to have a break, who otherwise would not have been able to afford this.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. So it's the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
