I must be mad…. but I’m going to do it! Mark Willis running 10Km for Carers Bucks
Having been very seriously ill in 2011, when I (finally) recovered, I was determined to get fit and lose weight. I needed a challenge I really couldn’t duck out of – so, even though I’ve never been a runner, not even for the tube, I decided to do the BUPA 10Km for a really important local charity – Carers Bucks.
I knew by committing to raise money for them, I couldn’t just decide to shelve the whole idea and stay indoors and have a cup of tea on the 27.5.13.
I first came across them when I was a councillor sitting on the Aylesbury Town Council Grants Committee and they gave us a presentation. I know the whole committee were absolutely stunned at how many young kids were caring for someone locally (Carers Bucks has nearly 600 young carers aged 6 -19 currently registered with the charity) I think Carers in general do an amazing job, without much recognition, and Carers Bucks are there to provide much needed help – the fact that they give young carers the chance to do some fun things that they normally can’t do, or to give much needed emotional support, really stuck with me.
This is why I have committed to my training and can now run 3Km in one go. And I am absolutely determined to be ‘race fit’ on the 27.5.13. So please sponsor me and benefit all those carers in our area who really need our support. Thank You.
