Story

Thank you for visiting my sponsorship page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online. Even though the race is run.

*******THAT'S RIGHT, WE DID IT!*******

Tent number 90, an intriguing collection of lion tamers, writers, teachers, archaeologists, economists and ex-Foreign Legion close protection bodyguards. All survived the race and we're already wallowing in nostalgia.

BUT FUNDRAISING CONTINUES. The Daneford Trust is still going and so is our appeal, so please, please, continue to sponsor me/us. I do feel like I earned it, after all...

So what was the challenge? A 150-mile run across the Sahara desert.

The Marathon des Sables took place in 6 stages, over a single week, and included one double-marathon stage of over 50 miles. It wasn't that hard really. Ha. 20 per cent of the race was on or through sand dunes and temperatures got up to 51 degrees Celsius, dropping to 3 or 4 degrees at night. Had a few sandstorms too. And many repulsive blisters. The aim was to drum up much-needed sponsorship income in aid of The Daneford Trust, with the help of corporate sponsors, colleagues, friends, family, passing acquaintances, and kind-hearted strangers. No doubt you are one of these. The target for fundraising, through this site and other events and appeals we're organising, has been set at an optimistic but by no means impossible £25,000. We're still going. So please help! The Daneford Trust is an educational charity which creates opportunities for educational, cultural and volunteer exchange by supporting young people from London, Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. The Trust was established in 1982 and is based in the East London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It grew out of a school exchange in 1977 between Daneford and Haggerston Secondary Schools in London and schools in Botswana, South Africa and Lesotho, and in the last 22 years or so has given a lot of opportunities to a lot of people - including me, back in 1997. It's worth a donation.
