Marla Woodward is raising money for Grandville Avenue Arts And Humanities Inc
Story
Throughout the month of July, my colleagues and I are attempting to run the distance between our two furthest office locations – London and Denver. That’s a total of 4,658 miles we need to cover between us. We are calling it the LON>DEN MARATHON
For the month of July, I've committed to running 52.4 miles (2 marathons) towards this goal, and with upcoming work travel and a holiday, I'll be running across the UK, the US, and Portugal to make this happen.
And then this big office goal got me thinking: is it time I finally pushed myself to run a Marathon...? So I've lost my mind and have signed up to run 26 terrifying, humidity filled miles at the Walt Disney World Marathon in January 2020. The longest I've ever run at one time was 15 miles, and I had to walk the last 2 miles of that race due to injury. But the time has come to get over that mental block and run the big race.
Because this is a really personal challenge for me, I've picked a charity near and dear to me in my home town to support: Grandville Avenue Arts and Humanities.
GAAH provides free community resources, like the Cook Library and the Cook Arts Center for children in Grandville Avenue neighborhood of Grand Rapids, MI. It's a safe place for kids to learn, get help on homework, and engage in various cultural dance and music classes. And with less and less arts in public education today, places like GAAH are critical to making sure children have a place to embrace and explore their creativity.
