OK so let's get one thing perfectly clear right from the beginning. Before you all rush down Ladbrokes and put your annual salary on me winning the race - FORGET IT !!! It will be a moral victory if I am not the last one to finish.!
For those of you that know me. You will know that I will never choose the easy option. Yes I could have done a 5k run or a sponsored walk but here we have a really fantastic opportunity. This is the FIRST ever Brighton Marathon and to complete this would really be special. Something I can look back on and know that I was a part of it.
This really is a little bit of self-indulgence allowing me to fulfill one of my personal goals in life. I am not anticipating that this will become a regular occurence for me, hoewever I have been told that it is addictive, so who knows !!.
I have been quietly working at my fitness levels over the past few months and hopefully have shed enough pounds to make running slightly less gruelling. It certainly shouldn't feel as though I am carrying a backpack (or should that be - "extra large waistband !") anymore!! One thing is for sure if getting FAT wasn't killing me, getting FIT certainly is !!
Having decided to put myself through all this pain, I really would like others to benefit. So this is just as much about raising money for a worthwhile cause as my own personal glory (or failure!!)
I have considered very carefully as to which Charity I would like to support. It was important to me that I could associate with those that would be benefitting from the amount raised. As soon as I saw "Have a Heart" there was never a doubt in my mind. For those of you who have ever been in the car with me know that Heart FM is always on the radio, and that I am always full of praise for the work they do in the local community with the less-advantaged people. This is a cause that I feel is extremely worthwhile and reflects my own personal feelings. I will be proud to wear the "Have a Heart" vest and to participate on their behalf, raising as much as I can.
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit this website. This makes sponsoring me so much easier. I really don't like asking people for money and I trust my instincts that my friends and family will support me in this amazing or should I say "crazy" fundraising venture.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
All that is left for me to say is THANK YOU because I really hope that between us we can make a difference to those that really need it.
