Story

In 2011 I reached the grand age of 50 and decided that a challenge was in order. I always consider myself very lucky; great family, fantastically generous friends and good health, that I want this challenge to be something that may help somebody else. I have therefore entered the 2012 Greater Manchester Marathon to be run on the 29th April and will be running in aid of Springhill Hospice.

In the cold light of day and after a bit of training I now realise just how far 26 miles is and why cars or public transport should always be used to cover this distance.

I have kept myself reasonably fit through playing soccer but retired from playing for Surreal Madrid in 2010 after realising that it was increasingly unlikely that Sir Alex was ever going to see me as the solution to his midfield. However I am signed on as a player for Chadderton Youth (where I am one of the coaches) just in case they are short one day - I live in hope.

Apart from getting me fitter and helping me to lose some weight it also gives me an opportunity to raise some money for Springhill Hospice in Rochdale. Springhill is a purpose-built facility which offers palliative care to patients with life limiting illnesses. As hospice care is provided free of charge Springhill has to cover costs by raising over £2 million each year to keep going. I have the privilege of knowing one of the dedicated nurses that works there.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
