Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.
On 21st April 2013, I will be running the Virgin London Marathon to raise money for War Child. This amazing charity protects children whose lives are devastated by conflict in places like Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Iraq.
Please support me and donate what you can for this important cause. I have a lot of hard training ahead! So, think of me on those many cold, dark morning training runs between now and April.
You can track my training on Twitter @MartinIsRunning and watch me build up to the 26.2 miles.
The difference your donation will make
To find out more about War Child's work, please watch this short video.
£15 could feed three children in a War Child kindergarten in Afghanistan for a month.
£50 could pay for a year's worth of life-changing education for a girl in Uganda.
£100 could help reunify a former child soldier with her family in the DRC, or set her up to live independently.
More about War Child: the charity for children affected by war
In 2010, there were over 1 billion children living in countries affected by armed conflict, and over a quarter of them were under five.
War Child is working with local communities to support the most vulnerable and marginalised children who are too often forgotten in the aftermath of conflict. These include child soldiers, street children and girls at risk of rape and violence. Their work includes:
• Providing medical care, sanctuary and counselling to girls who have been the victim of sexual violence.
• Creating safe havens where children can escape the dangers of life on the streets after war has forced them to leave home.
• Working to increase access to education, so that children can enjoy safe environments in which to learn and socialise with one another.
• Helping children get their voices heard and their rights met, and helping local people to protect their children better.
In some of the most insecure conflict areas in the world, War Child works with local partners to tackle the devastating effects of war after the cameras have gone home and media attention has shifted elsewhere.
