In memory of Brian Bevan 1940-2010

I will be running 10km with a very good friend of mine, David Bevan and other friends in an event in Hastingwood on Sunday 3rd April and would really appreciate it if you could sponsor me.

Now, 10km for most people is "little challenge", but for Dave in particular (see pictures ) this is not the case...

The Bionic Leg Story
Dave was run over in 2008 and broke (amongst other things) his leg. It was a major break resulting in him being airlifted to hospital and eventually transferred to a specialist hospital

For 48 hours it was "touch and go" whether Dave would survive the accident, let alone whether he would be able to walk or run again, but thankfully with a lot of physio he made it!

During the recovery period, Dave's dad Brian, spent numerous hours driving him from Essex to Norfolk for operations and treatment. These shared experiences strengthened a Father and Son bond that had not always been present.

In 2010 it was Dave's turn to be the "support act" as Brian fought cancer and Dave became his Dad's voice of encouragement..

Brian lost his brave battle against bowel cancer on December 23rd, 2010, but not before Dave had promised him that he would raise money for this local hospice. During a mad moment a number of us agreed to join in, and raise as much as we can.

Farleigh Hospice relies on donations to be able to continue to give people support and comfort in their final days, and I know the Bevan family were extremely grateful for what they were able to do for him.

The challenge for me personally is to prove a few things...

1. I can stay off the beers long enough to train for the event

2. Prove that us "bankers" are not all hard nosed and are prepared to do things for others

3. To see if I can complete the course in less than 50 minutes...45 minutes would be great.

4. Set the bar and see if I can hit a half marathon later this year and then a full marathon next year (but promise the sponsorship is a one off)
