I am completing this challenge for 2 different reasons, the first is to raise money for a great cause, Age UK.  An ageing society is a social issue with loneliness and isolation being a real big problem in the UK. 

I work with teams of people and suppliers who visit elderly people in their homes when dealing with Insurance claims and we see this issue first hand in what we do on a daily basis.

My second reason for doing this is simply to set myself a challenge of getting fitter, as you know my physique is one that is 'aerodynamically challenged' so the Great Manchester Cycle is a real challenge for me personally, hence you can be sure that any donations will be gratefully received and will truly spur me on to the finish line.

I am raising money for Age UK,  

Did you know :

• There are over 11 million people over 65 in the UK
• 1 in 4 older people feel they have no-one
• There are more people in the UK age 60 and over than under 18
• The number of people over 85 in the UK is set to double in the next 20 years and treble in the next 30
• 36% of people over 65 live alone
• Every year, 30,000 people (all ages) in the UK die of the cold, 28,000 of these are older people (aged 65+) 
  
• Latest estimates suggest 1.3 million people over 65 suffer from malnutrition, and the vast majority (93%) live in the community. 
  
• 1.6 million pensioners live below the poverty line
