St Luke's Hospice (Sheffield)

St Luke's is Sheffield's only hospice, offering specialist end of life care free of charge to people across the whole of Sheffield. St Luke's Hospice cared for more than 1,400 patients last year, providing care for the whole community from Stocksbridge to Swallownest, from Dore to Darnall. St Luke's cares for people in three main ways - the in-patient unit with its 30 beds, the Therapies and Rehabilitation Centre, which looks after the needs of our day patients, and our team of 11 community nurses, caring for people in their own homes. Every year St Luke's relies on the generosity of the people of Sheffield to help raise more than £4.5 million to keep the hospice open.

My story

A huge thank you to all that have sponsored us in our efforts. To complete this achievement is hugely rewarding in itself but to raise as much as this makes it even more so!

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As you can see we're attempting to complete a marathon, Charlie suggested we do one this year as in his words "it's now or never". Having never even done a 5k fun run we may be stretching ourselves. We certainly won’t be breaking any speed records but we are aiming for around 4hours.

For me it was very good timing, my dad was ill with cancer and to have something else to focus on has proven very beneficial. Training has been therapeutic and helped ease the pain of watching someone else’s health deteriorate and the feelings of helplessness. For anyone who might not know, my father died after his battle with cancer in April.

The care workers at St Luke’s in Sheffield were fantastic, firstly with pain control then with care and assistance during the final weeks. Whilst cancer still exists places like this are essential and so I’d like to raise as much as possible for them. Charlie has very kindly said he is happy for his donations to go to the same place.

I realise times are tight but absolutely anything you can give will go to a very worthy cause.
