We believe decent homes are the heartbeat of strong communities and so we also fight for land rights for women, upgrade urban slums and informal settlements, improve access to water and sanitation, and help communities become more resilient in the face of natural disasters.

Story

You may have come to this page through the link from www.martinhowden.com. You may have come for other reasons. Either way, please do read on.

Habitat for Humanity is a wonderful global charity concerned with poverty housing. Our particular focus is on Ethiopia, where it takes Habitat just £2000 to build a simple two room house. This is the total cost! - it includes all management costs as well.

The money that we raise here is being more than matched by other donors to Habitat for Humanity. So when we reach our current target of £40,000 that will effectively translate to £120,000 for Habitat Ethiopia - meaning around 60 houses, or more meaningfully 300 people with a home who currently are living in destitution.

You can get some idea of the difference this makes by looking at the pictures on this site. The "before" houses are little more than a collection of wood and plastic - when it rains the water comes straight through the house. The "after" houses will last for 100 years and offer a platform for a family to start a completely different life.

We have regular first-hand contact with Habitat in Ethiopia to ensure that your money is getting to the right place, and making a real difference to some incredibly poor people in Ethiopia. It is.

Transferring money through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you transfer your money, it goes directly to Habitat for Humanity and Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible contribution by a UK taxpayer. Habitat themselves continue to designate money contributed through this site specifically to this programme in Ethiopia.

Thankyou so much for your support for this work.
