Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name's Mia McGlown and I'm just nine months old. I'm just finding my feet and beginning to stand independently. My mum and dad are very proud of me!
My dad works for Cancer Research UK and sometimes he comes home from work feeling sad because someone he's got to know has died from cancer - occasionally children not much older than me.
So on Friday October 19 2012, I'm going to help my dad's charity by standing up to cancer. That day, every time I rise to my feet on my own, my mum and dad are going to donate £3 to Stand Up To Cancer www.standuptocancer.org.uk
We want you to help to motivate me by making a donation too. In doing so, you'll be helping to accelerate cancer research and bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
As an extra incentive, my dad's going to award a mystery prize to the person who guesses the correct number of stand-ups I achieve! So don't forget to indicate your guess when you leave a message after donating!
Dad says It’s a critical time for cancer research and that scientists have the knowhow to make rapid advances in the treatment and prevention of cancer. They just need more money. That’s where Stand Up To Cancer comes in, by raising funds to turn breakthroughs in the lab into breakthroughs in our hospitals.
Children's cancer is one of the areas where amazing progress has been made. Today almost eight-out-of-10 children with cancer survive. But did you know that forty years ago just three-out-of-10 children with the disease survived.
I'm hoping that by the time I'm a mummy, children's cancer won't be a worry.
So please, please help me Stand Up To Cancer.
Mia xx
