Stop Press: Kilimanjaro successfully summited at 7 am on 20 October.

You will no doubt have seen on the News the terrible famine conditions that currently exist in East Africa, with Somalia and Kenya worst hit. In some ways, Kenya is being doubly hit due to the thousands of Somali refugees fleeing their country to neighbouring Kenya. This has put massive pressure on Kenyan infrastructure and making things even worse for the Kenyan people.

Camps International Trust are trying to help at the very grass roots of the structural problems in Kenya, trying to bring longer term and sustainable improvements to villages there. Whilst donations to the disasters agencies will no doubt help those in desperate need in the short term, the long term solution will only be found by donating to organisations like Camps. Also, so sadly, much of the funds raised for African charities find their way into corrupt hands, or the aid is provided in such a way that the recipients of the aid are not protected from theft. The many years of experience that Camps have in the area means that they are well aware of the potential pitfalls in this area and are able to build the infrastructure in a safe and secure way.

To help raise money for this amazing organisation, I climbed Kilimanjaro in October. This mountain is the highest free standing mountain in the World and the highest point in Africa. It was the first climb of this type that I have ever undertaken. I funded all of my own travel and climbing costs, so all of your money will go to the Camps International Trust to help fund the amazing work they do.
