Trailwalker 2013 · 27 July 2013 to 28 July 2013 ·
Hello!
I have been going for trail walks since I was a little child, when my grandfather Jan, who came from a pretty little village in heart of Slovakia, took me out to conquer my first hill. At the time, it looked like a mountain to me. Little did I know then what I will be signing up for 30 years later…
The Trailwalker.
Trailwalker began in 1981 as a military training exercise for the elite Queen's Gurkha Signals Regiment in Hong Kong. It has since grown into one of the world's leading team endurance challenges.
In 2002 Trailwalker UK was opened to public via partnership with Oxfam and has since grown into a major fundraising event for Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust.
I was given just couple of minutes to decide to join The Weakened Warriors and walk the equivalent of 2.4 marathons with them, throughout the day and night. (What?!)
Walk across South Downs? Sure! 100 kilometres long. All in one go. The aim is to finish within 30 hours in a team of 4.
So why am I doing that? Not only because I can’t change my mind anymore, but also because by taking part in this epic challenge I'll be raising money to help people in poverty make a better life for themselves through the work of Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust.
Couple of minutes and I was in... and that is exactly how long it will take you to help me and make a donation. You will not only support and motivate me but your money will help greatly to GWT and Oxfam in many ways:
- to provide clean water and sanitation during emergencies, water, feeding packs, soap, blankets and people on the ground
- fund long-term projects, in areas such as health or education, that help people work their way out of poverty (building classrooms, training teachers or buying books...)
- provide financial and medical aid to the most destitute Gurkhas, and to fund community aid projects in Nepal
After long months of training I am hoping to walk all the way to the finish line... please help me to raise the much needed funds, every penny will make each step lighter :)
Everyone has a chance to guess our team finishing time (e.g. 29:59). The closest guess earns a prize - yet to be decided! Just enter the time in tme donation message.
