Story

Shaun was diagnosed with APL leukaemia on the 11th of the 11th 2011 after having the initial treatment, we were told the devastating news that it had come back in his brain and spinal-cord, the doctors at the Royal Liverpool Hospital then decided to do a bone marrow transplant which they did on 20 July.

Everything went well we had a good few months of him being up and down in and out of hospital blood results up-and-down combined with all the stress that goes with travelling to and from hospital.

Then in November whilst in hospital he developed a lung infection which then took him to ITU.

Unfortunately he was only in ITU for a couple of weeks when we lost him, that was on 12th of the 12th 2012, that means he was diagnosed 11 11 11 and died 12 12 12 which is a statistic he would have liked.

Shaun was our boy, he was conscientious, loving, incredibly brave through-out his illness, although only with us for a very short 20 years, every person that came into contact with him was affected by him, he made an impact on everybody's life.

As Maria says, he was our snowflake, made an impact,an individual but gone too soon.

In the words of Tom and Mike (Shaun's best friends)

As the director, he was determined, very determined and he gave us all that motivation to carry on, even if he did drive us crazy with all the traveling we had to do.

But he was a great friend and a sound person to speak to. All the best mate and we’ll do our best to finish the film for you pal, you’ll be truly missed.

Words cannot describe the loss we are all feeling. But the list of words to describe Shaun is endless; motivated, determined, committed and above all else inspirational.

At only 20 years old Shaun achieved more than most people, he knew exactly what he wanted to do with his life and he wasn't going to let anyone or anything get in his way of achieving his dreams.

We always used to joke that he stayed over at my house so often during filming that there was a permanent Shaun shaped hole on the sofa. Over time that hole faded but a much bigger one has been left in our hearts and that will never fade

Although his time with us has been cut short, we all know that he will always be with us in spirit and that he will be watching over us every day, on a screen so big...

Directing us to make the right decisions and guiding us through the darkest moments of our lives.

Shaun was one of the bravest and most inspiring people I have ever had the privilege to know, and I feel honoured to be able to call you my friend.

Angie Kipling's Summary/Story:

Thanks for taking the time to visit our  JustGiving page for Shaun

Shaun was a lovely, talented, inspirational young lad who had a promising future with his whole life mapped out before him.  He was diagnosed with leukaemia in 11.11.11 and lost his battle for life in 12.12.12 aged 19 years.

He is sorely missed by his dad Martyn, Step Mum Maria, step sister Catrin and all his family and friends.

Although I only knew Shaun a short time, he made a big impact to our lives,  his sense of humour, his caring nature, his intelligence and the way he laughed and smiled could light up a room, I feel very blessed and privileged to have known him.

In memory of Shaun I have decided to ride the London to Paris 2014 Bikeathon with his dad Martyn, I am sure he will be with us every step of the way and will be cheering us on all the way to the finish line at the Champs Elysees.  I only started training for the bikeathon in January, I never owned a bike before and learned to ride properly without wobbling and falling off by sitting for five months on stabilizers (a turbo trainer in front of the tv watching my soaps) , My first ride out was with the Breeze Wirral ladies in May and thanks to Sara Braidwood, the Sky breeze leader my confidence grew and the length of my rides became longer and longer, since May I have ridden from just around the block to entering three bikeathons and my biggest achievement so far riding Hooton to Llandudno (over 100 km) and I have met some wonderful people on my travels, especially the Breeze ladies and of course Martyn, Maria and Catrin

Blood cancers like leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma affect people of all ages from all walks of life, by raising money for research, we can understand more about blood cancers, how to diagnose them and find better ways to treat them. Through the Lymphoma and leukaemia research millions of pounds have been invested to improve treatment for blood cancer, but there is still so much more they can do.  Leukaemia and lymphoma research want to save the life of every single person with blood cancer and they need our support to do that.

We aim to raise as much money we can for leukaemia and Lymphoma research.  Thank you again for visiting our page for Shaun and your support is very much appreciated, the charity is very close to our hearts and we wanted to do something out of the ordinary to raise money for such a  worthy cause.  As well as the bikeathon, we will be arranging carboot sales, raffles, race and quiz nights so please keep a look out for our forthcoming events.
