Story

Hi, I'm Max, a gorgeously sweet 11 year old Cocker Spaniel boy. I arrived in the care of Oldies Club, a small volunteer-run charity which rescues and rehomes older dogs, earlier this year. I would be really grateful if you would make a donation to this page, to help with my vet bills, as Oldies Club is paying lots of money to help improve my health.

After arriving in Oldies Club care, the charity paid for me to have a dental, which went well and no extractions were needed. Unfortunately though, the vet discovered a lump in my abdomen while I was under and scanned me, locating a lump on my spleen that required urgent removal. I had a splenectomy a few weeks ago and had to stay at the vets overnight, due to the risk of bleed to my liver. The tumour on my spleen was sent away for analysis and thankfully this proved to be benign. Now it is removed, there is no risk of it bursting inside me. Phew!

My ears were also examined while I was under anaesthetic and, despite my previous owner having taken me to the vets during my time with them, my ears are still in a terrible state and one of my eardrums had burst. I had my ears flushed while under a GA last year, while with my previous owner, and had been prescribed the correct antibiotics, but sadly my ear problems have persisted. I will spare you the graphic details, but I am expected to require two total ear canal ablations in the near future, once I have recovered from my previous operation. I will update this page with details of any additional vet bill costs, when they have been confirmed.

In addition, my liver was checked during the surgery and the vet confirmed I have vacuolar hepatopathy, which is a condition often caused by long term infection (most likely to be my ears, in my case). Thankfully my liver is not cancerous.

My foster Mum says I am such a lovely, happy soul. I trot over to her to have my ears cleaned and have my ear and eye drops put in, wagging my tail all the time. I am a very good patient! Oldies Club says it amazing to think about how good I am, despite all these health issues, which have obviously caused me considerable discomfort for some time now.

Please note that should Oldies Club supporters be generous enough to donate more than is needed for my vet bill, any excess money will be directed to the charity’s general fund and used to help other older dogs in its care.

Thank you,

Marvellous Max xxx
