Bath Half Marathon 2015 · 1 March 2015 ·

We‘re the world‘s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving and improving lives through research. We fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of more than 200 types of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Story

A great friend of mine was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma in August last year and he is currently undergoing rigorous treatment. This is a very rare form of cancer and therefore requires continual research to develop new and more effective treatment. The Cator family have therefore decided that one thing they could do to help Charlie, as a family, would be to raise a bit of money for Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. Its fundamental support for schemes pushing innovation and tackling scientific challenges in cancer research are exactly what will help him on his road to recovery.

Ellie Cator started the ball rolling by deciding to run the Bath Half Marathon on 1st March 2015 and she then signed up her mother Janey, sister Jessica (my goddaughter) and her brother, Sam.  Her elder sister, Rosanna, who lives in Hong Kong, has single handedly organised a Hong Kong Half Marathon on the same day.  Rosanna’s enthusiasm spurred on their cousins in Australia who have found a Half Marathon happening in Sydney on 1st March, which has inspired another cousin, Annabel, to get the skates rolling in Vancouver Island where she will also be running a half marathon with friends.  What started as a family venture to run the Bath Half has therefore taken off to be a global event, spiraling with the energy from an almost overwhelming amount of support from friends and family, into a world half marathon relay with a virtual “handing over the baton” to each other as we run around the world:

FOUR CONTINENTS, FOUR HALF MARATHONS, ONE DAY, ONE CAUSE - CANCER RESEARCH UK!

A lot of people, like me, have never run before (and I have to tell you now that I don't intend to run much of it - BUT I am reliably told I will not be judged for walking!) - if, on this understanding, you would be happy to sponsor me to get from A - B I would be very grateful if you would donate a few pounds to this very worthwhile charity.
