VSO Everest Base Camp Expedition August 2012 · 1 August 2012 ·

VSO is an international development organisation that brings people together to share skills, build capabilities, and change lives to make the world a fairer place for all. Everyday, VSO volunteers are working to empower people living in some of the world’s most marginalised communities.

Story

Last year I was told about the development charity VSO and the challenge we could undertake to help them. Our goal would be reaching Mount Everest Base Camp standing at 5,545m / 18,192ft high! The reason for putting our bodies through the inevitable pain of high altitude is raising our individual target of £2350 for VSO.

VSO is the world's leading international development charity that works through volunteers to fight poverty. They don't send food parcels or cash to the poor. Instead, VSO's high-impact approach involves bringing people together to share skills, build capabilities, promote international understanding and action, and change lives to make the world a fairer place. I truly believe that this is a worthy cause :)

This expedition will be between the 20th August and 11th September 2012 with a 13 day round trek to Everest base camp.

The task now, up until we leave for Nepal is to raise this rather large sum of monies, and also training my body to be able to take the beating from this expedition. I strongly believe that it’s an achievable target, through fellow students in Portsmouth, colleagues in Cambridge and friends and family back home - to businesses, schools and grants this target can be achieved! I will also be donating throughout the year.

Any money you can contribute I’ll be truly grateful for, it all goes straight to the charity, it is a very worthy cause. So please help me :)
