Batten disease is a group of rare, progressive neurodegenerative, genetic metabolic diseases that occur in children & adults worldwide. The BDFA's Vision is to be the central point of excellence in the UK for supporting affected families funding research into a potential cure.

Story

We're running the British 10k London Run on 11th July in aid of the Batten Disease Family Association (BDFA).

Batten Disease (or neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses) is a group of rare genetic neurodegenerative diseases that occur in children and adults. Those with the disease suffer from a progressive deterioration of the brain and nervous sytem, and suffer an early death in childhood or early adulthood.

Currently there is no cure and little understanding of what causes the disorder. The BDFA aims to provide a support network for sufferers and their families and to increase awareness of the disease. The BDFA also supports research to better understand the disease process, develop better diagnostic tests and potential therapies or treatments.
