Story

Daniels' Story.

In January 2010 my 6 year old son Daniel became seriously ill with what transpired to be the very rare condition of toxic shock syndrome.

He was transferred to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital High Dependency Unit due to the onset of multiple organ failure and septicaemia. His health further declined after his lungs spontaneously collapsed and he was immediately transferred to intensive care where he spent nearly a week on life support.

Through the skills, expertise, dedication (and a lot of faith) of the ICU staff he eventually improved, going back through high dependency and eventually to a ward.

Withought the action of everyone at the Children's hospital i hate to think what could have been!

He is now well on the way to full health, although due to the illness is now permanently deaf in his right ear and he is still visiting the children's hospital regularly to treat this problem!

The Trek In the Sahara is organised for the hospital and will be over 6 days in February 2010, although we need to raise over £2000 before the beginning of December.

The trek involves living in very basic conditions, spending time with nomads and over a number of days treking to the Chigaga dune zone in the Sahara. Climbing the dunes and watching the sun rise over the snow capped Atlas Mountains in the distance.

The distances are not great but climbing in sand will be very challenging to say the least!!

Any monies donated will be divided equally between the intensive care unit, high dependency unit and the renal ward that Daniel stayed on.
