My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my page, on 22nd April 2012 I will be running the London Marathon, to understand why I have chosen to raise money for the Queen Elizabeth Foundation please read on:-

Almost exactly one year ago a great friend and colleague Colin Green fell just a few feet from a ladder in his garden suffering a massive head trauma, in that few seconds both his and his families lives changed forever. Though he somehow survived the initial injury after regaining consciousness over a week later his family were advised it was unlikely that Colin would ever walk or talk again and that he would most likely need 24 hour care for the rest of his life, their response was that the doctors and nurses clearly didn’t know Colin at all and they could be assured he would prove them all very wrong.

Over the past year the drive and determination I have seen from Colin and his family has quite frankly left me speechless (which if you know me is quite some achievement). Without the constant battle by his family to obtain funding for rehabilitation and Colin’s commitment to get well again I am sure those doctors may have been correct, however, instead he has done exactly what his family said he would do. Colin has regained his speech fantastically to the point where he is back giving out the orders to all who will listen (mainly to his wife Maureen), his physical rehabilitation though slow and painful has been remarkable and though it’s currently only a few small steps Colin is now beginning to walk again, I even had the pleasure of watching him walk me to the door recently though I suspect the desire to get rid of me may have been the driving factor.

A huge milestone was when Colin recently returned home, though he continues his therapy every day, being out of hospital and back home has been a fantastic boost for both him and his family. Colin still has a huge way to go but the progress he has made in 12 months is inspiring and as such I will be attempting to complete the 26.2 miles of the London Marathon in aid of the Queen Elizabeth Foundation where Colin now receives much of his therapy.

I know many of you will receive a number of requests for sponsorship around this time but I urge you to make a donation even if it is just £1 towards this great cause so that they can continue to help Colin and people like him on the road back to recovery.

Whether you are able to sponsor me or not I hope Colin’s story encourages you to enjoy every day you have as you never know when life could change in just a few seconds!

For those who will be in London on April 22 for the Marathon please join me for post (hopefully celebratory) race drinks at Browns Cardinal Place Victoria (2 Cardinal Walk, Victoria, London, SW1E 5AG)

My updates 2

Well I somehow managed to complete the 26.2 mile course, at some points I think the only thing that kept my legs moving was the thought of all the generous donations everyone has made so once again a massive thnk you to all who have contributed.
