Matt's Comments:
"Right then, we have set ourselves the challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro the worlds highest free standing mountain at 5895 meters (19,340feet)!! I have to say that I am feeling a mixture of apprehension and excitement. It surely is going to be a tough slog over the 8 days that we will be on the mountain for. It will not only be physically demanding but it will be tough coping with the high altitude.
You may well ask why am I doing this then?! Well unfortunately I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2008. I know from speaking with people since my diagnosis it made me realise how many people know very little/anything about the illness. It is basically an illness that affects the central nervous system which can lead to permanent disability. At present there is no cure for the disease but treatments are available to reduce the symptoms of the illness. If you wish to find out more about MS and what the MS Trust do then please visit www.mstrust.org.uk
On a personal note I hope that this will be the first of many challenges that I wish to embark on. My pledge is that as long as I can continue to raise money for this massively worthy cause then I will continue to do so!!
It would be greatly appreciated if you could donate what ever you can afford - literally every penny will help!! (Just to reassure you, any donations received will go directly to the MSTrust as we are paying for the trip ourselves).
I would also like to thank my Dad for agreeing to come along on this challenge and hopefully we will be able to give each other enough encouragement to reach the top!"
