The Lombard Towpath Trotters are a group of work colleagues’ who have come together to run a half marathon and at the same time raise a bit of money for a worthy cause. (www.amanikids.org)

The money which you donate here is not just for the completion of the race, but also for all the hard work, time and effort which they are putting in to conditioning themselves to be able to complete the 13 miles of the half marathon.

 The Story So Far.......

A long time ago, there was a man. That man had a dream. His dream was to ride a bike.

To ride a bike the length and breadth of the land, from John O'Groats to Lands End.

In order to get fit he started to run.

Another ran with him.

They ran at lunchtimes,

they ran further and faster,

and then they did a 10K run and then the bike ride was called off!

But they kept running, barring illness and holidays, ever since, covering ever more annoying distances in training - how many calories iPod? In races they called themselves the Towpath Trotters, the meanest gravel crunching lanky duo in the West (Midlands).

Now they needed a new goal and spurred on by eager new recruits fuelled by the desire to step out of their circle of comfort, they met one day, drank tea and decided to run the Birmingham Half Marathon!

Now the two were six: old faithfuls Gavin and Darren - never mind the quality, check the mileage; champion trainer Lynsey - discovered she could save on travel costs by running to her Mum's (How do I get back?); Matt B who trained so hard and so determined he broke his leg and the young bucks Matt F and Rory - we're doing no training except for the Helly Hansen iron man event the week before!

All this burgeoning talent needed a good cause and they adopted the Amani Children's Home, a Tanzanian Home for children in need at the foot of Mt Kilamanjaro (and no, it is for their poverty not mountain climbing aspirations!). They have set a fairly bold target and invite you to become a friend of the Lombard Towpath Trotters and the children at the Amani Children's Home by sponsoring our half marathon and leaving an appropriately derisory comment!

Training is well under way for the team, unfortunately though they have already run into a problem. One of their Key runners has had to pull out following a training related injury of a stress fracture in the lower fibular. This is a heavy blow at such an early stage of training, only time will tell if it will affect the end result......

We have now recruited Toffee the dog as our team mascot, see if you can spot her in our photo's.

SHOCK Revelation........ Toffee the dog is infact a Boy, Lynsey has seen his ?!!!.

Stop the Press…. The Curse of the Towpath Trotters strikes again…. This morning (20/07/10) Lynsey ( I’ll train harder that the rest of you) Bartlam was rushed to A & E following a training incident yesterday evening…. After an X-ray and consultation from numerous experts a strained ligament was diagnosed and a rest period of 2 weeks was prescribed. (I was disappointed no moon boot was fitted!)

So it’s been a while since I last left an update...... We are now at Race day minus 23 days. Training has been progressing well, even Rory and Fish have started training. Lynsey, Gavin & Darren are all up to & over 10 miles on their training runs, so it’s all Go Go GO....

Please take a look at the pictures of the progress so far & feel free to leave a comment with your donation.
