Ecuador - Avenue of the Volcanoes · 29 November 2019

The King’s Trust supports 11 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed or struggling at school to get their lives on track. Many of the young people we support are in or leaving care, have been in trouble with the law, or they are facing challenges such as homelessness or mental health issues.

Story

On the 29th November, 26 of us from MoneySupermarket Group will be flying to Ecuador to climb 4 volcanoes. 4 of us will also be climbing an extra volcano - Chimborazo, the furthest place you can stand from the centre of the Earth. It's a really hard challenge that we have set ourselves and will reach an altitude of almost 6,300 meters (where there is only about half the amount of oxygen in the air compared to see level), but it's for a fantastic cause.

I'm doing this challenge for few reasons:

  1. Firstly, The Prince's Trust is a great charity that helps young people find jobs and a career. It's harder than ever to find your first job and I remember graduating in 2008 (height of the credit crunch) and really struggling for someone to give me chance.
  2. For the last year I have struggled with depression and this has given me something to aim for and get me into the gym to really push myself to do this challenge. The exercise has really helped me begin to feel better and without this challenge I know I wouldn't be where I am with my mental health.
  3. I love walking and being outside, and what better way to walk and be outside than casually climb some volcanoes half way around the world!

We have all been set a healthy fundraising target to achieve and I would really grateful for any contributions to help me achieve my part of it.

Thanks in advance,

Matt
