Story

Just want to extend our massive thanks to Formby Cycles; without their fantastic help, co-operation and extensive generosity this bike ride would not be going ahead (Especially Dave!).

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Our Squadron consists of 62 dedicated members, all of whom are studying full time degrees at Universities in the North West and North Wales. We also have a hard working team of full time Royal Air Force and civilian staff who support and direct our efforts. One of our main goals within the Air Squadron is to raise money for charity. We set ourselves this annual challenge as a chance for the students to put something back into the community.

Therefore, on the 30th August this year we will attempt a great challenge, to raise a total of £1000 for the charity ‘Help for Heroes’. I’m sure you’ll appreciate that this is no mean feat. Therefore, we have organised an endurance challenge; to cycle a Route to the main tourist towers of England and France. The route will start at Blackpool Tower, (Blackpool, England) then a team of 3 (Matt hughson, Peter Burrows and Dave Ollerhead) will cycle down through Lancashire, Cheshire, Salford, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Hampshire and Sussex. Then after a  ferry crossing, we will cycle through northern France to the Eiffel tower (Paris, France). The total route is close to 500 miles!

Help for Heroes is a charity that is obviously close to our hearts as many of us are pursuing a future with the forces - 23% of the current RAF are ex-Universities Air Squadron members which has led former members of our own Squadron to currently fight for our country. Help for Heroes is a wonderful charity that helps rehabilitate injured and wounded soldiers from all three of the forces fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. These Soldiers can return safe in the knowledge that Help For Heroes is there to support them in their hour of need. Help for Heroes is made up mainly of dedicated volunteers, and they will benefit greatly from our prospective donation; a huge thank you for the selfless work that they do.
