Royal Parks Half Marathon 2009 · 11 October 2009 ·

The Fishermen's Mission is the only national charity working solely to support active and retired fishermen and their families by providing practical, financial and pastoral support. Fishing is dangerous and unpredictable. Hardship and tragedy are facts of everyday life in the UK’s fishing industry.

Story

Hello chaps - well, I've finally succumbed to running for charity ... and this one's a really good 'un.

Some may say (in a rather synical way I might add) that I'm rather hedging my bets running for a charity that looks after the loved ones of those lost at sea, not 18 months after having bought a bought a boat (!!!) but the Fishermen's Mission is a really worthwhile charity. Essentially it cares for the retired and disabled fishermen and their wives, widows and children ... and while it's not Governement funded HRH Lizzy II's on board, as is Rick Stein ... which sounds like good company to me!

The Royal Park's the venue, 11th October's the date and the distance is a rather ill rounded 13.1 miles. At time of writing I've about a month to go and good few miles to go to get race fit ... still, at least I'm not pinning my hopes on a 'new pair of trainers' like my fellow runner Luke!!!!

Anyway, dig deep guys ... remember the times I've been there for you of your various challenges ... and don't forget you're always welcome along for a bit of fishing ... best find someone to sponsor whose running for the RNLI as well though!

Cheers Matt
