The VCMF is a fund I set up in memory of my dear mum who left a huge hole in all our lives on December 8th 2008 when she lost her short battle with cancer aged just 50. This page is to keep her memory alive whilst supporting others.

Story

While most of us will be relaxing on the weekend of 28th-29th June, a team of 10 firefighters will be attempting to complete the mountain endurance challenge.

The firefighters will climb the highest peaks of Great Britain three countries, Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Mount Snowdon. Raising money for a charity close to their hearts, CLIC Sargent.

Today, 11 more children and young people will hear the devastating news that they have cancer. From diagnosis, CLIC Sargent’s specialist care teams will step in, ready to help, support and guide. They provide specialist package tailored to each young cancer patient and family.

CLIC Sargent are currently helping a family of a firefighter, so the team are aiming to raise some money and awareness, so that CLIC Sargent can continue to provide support for this and many more families affected by this awful disease.

After completing the three climbs the firefighters will have walked over 20 miles and ascended more than 10,000 feet and driven over 1,000 miles.

If the mountain challenge wasn’t enough, myself (Matt) and a friend (James) will be taking part in the Prudential London 100-mile bike ride on the 29thJuly for CLIC Sargent. (Yes, there is a bike big enough to carry me!) The ride starts in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, then follows a 100-mile route on closed roads through the capital and into Surrey’s countryside. With leg-testing climbs and a route made famous by the world’s best cyclists at the London 2012 Olympics, which finishes on The Mall.

Both events won’t be easy, but nothing will compare to the pain a family that cancer affects. Any donation will make a difference and will gratefully be received.

Thank you for taking the time to read and support this worthwhile charity. Please feel free to share :o)
