BUPA Great North Run 2009 · 20 September 2009 ·

Families are right at the heart of Rainbow Hub. Based in Mawdesley, Lancashire, we’re a charity providing therapeutic services for children and young people with physical disabilities as a result of a neurological condition or brain injury.

Story

Hi folks, thanks for visiting my JustGiving page - as most of you will have met me, or know of me at least, you will understand that I'm not built for speed or athleticism but this year I aim to complete the Great North Run on Sept 20th 2009 (Run, fat boy, Run I hear you cry)

My chosen charity is Rainbow House - the Legacy ( www.thelegacy-rainbowhouse.com ) which is a charity specializing in providing services for children with neurological problems and conditions such as cerebral palsy, genetic and metabolic conditions, and acquired brain injuries. Some of the children have undiagnosed neurological problems.

The approach is based on an holistic approach to rehabilitation known as Conductive Education which aims to teach children life enhancing techniques, through education, recreation and sports, so that they can live more independent lives within the community.

Cath and I have been lucky enough to never need the services of Rainbow House, but my friends Dave and Gina have a wonderful little girl called Eve, who has benefited from Rainbow House for many years now after being born prematurely at 27 weeks, weighing only 2lbs and suffering with Cerebral Palsy.  Rainbow House has made a real difference to Eve and she is now a beautiful, feisty young thing and can now sit up unaided and has become mobile with the help of a walking frame.  Eve has also started school this week without a care in the world.

I recognise that there are many charities looking for your help, but if you can spare just £1 it would make such a difference to what is a fantastic charity and some great kids.

Thanks once again,

Matt (the half marathon man)
