Tour de Grid · 3 September 2017
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Just before Christmas last year, one of my colleagues (who shall remain nameless) kindly recommended my cycle route planning services to a small team of volunteers looking to plan a bike ride to raise money for National Grid's chosen partner charity, Alzheimer's Society. Within 30 minutes I was sat in a meeting plunging into planning the biggest Charity Challenge I have taken part in! The "Tour de Grid" Challenge is a 10 day cycling event with 10 consecutive stages from Scotland to Kent, each starting and ending at one of National Grid's key gas and electricity sites and offices. Riders can take part in a single stage, multiple stages, or the whole route North to South. Since I planned all the routes, I thought it would be rude not to actually ride them, so I will line up at the start at St Fergus on the 4th September and (hopefully!) finish at the Isle of Grain on the 13th September, covering about 1300km (800miles) and 13,000m (43,000ft) of climbing...I never like to make it easy for myself!
The rest of the organising committee and I have worked hard to make this a success for the 100+ people who have signed up to ride at some point and the entire ride will be supported by National Grid employee volunteers to maximise the amount of money we raise for Alzheimer's Society. I have been set a challenging personal target to raise £1800!! Any support you are able to give would be greatly appreciated.
Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading dementia charity. They provide information and support, improve care, fund research, and create lasting change for people affected by dementia.
