On the 5th May 2005 at 7.00 am my beautiful daughter Romilly Charlotte Wright was born into this world which as you can imagine should have been the best moment of my life, which it was apart from the fact she was very unwell indeed. She had contracted Group B Streppococis which is a viral disease which can lead to death in infants. I stood there after 18 hours of labour and watched with a stranges sense of disbelief as 7 docters and nurses tried to get Romilly breathing. I cannot explain what was going through my head at that time I was just dazed and confused and didn't really know what was happening - my feelings would later turn to anger when I found out this infection could have been prevented with a test and some antibiotics that cost less than £20. The UK Governmnent in there infinite wisdom have descided that the problem is not big enough to warrant the funding but as you can imagine I disagree.

I left the hospital on May the 5th needing more info on GBS and so contacted a fabulous voluntary support group called 'Group B Strep Support' who explained all to me without giving me the any statistics which would have scared me at the time.

So I thought I would get on my bike and cycle to Paris in 3 days covering 108 miles a day and raise a bit of money for GBS. I would like to point out that I have funded the entire trip myself and all proceeds will go too GBSS who will help to raise awareness to pregant women of the risks and what to look out for. This is a really small charity and EVERY penny goes to helping a wide range of parents like us through informaton and support - please support generously
