The Fishermen's Mission is the only national charity working solely to support active and retired fishermen and their families by providing practical, financial and pastoral support. Fishing is dangerous and unpredictable. Hardship and tragedy are facts of everyday life in the UK’s fishing industry.

Story

Hello everybody, thank you for taking the time to look on my ‘Just Giving’ page, I hope you find the following information useful.

My name is Maurice Lake and I am the Mission Area Officer for the Fishermen’s Mission in Northern Ireland, I am based in Kilkeel, Co. Down.

Every year, many families face an uncertain future because of loss of life or accident resultant of working in this hazardous occupation.

My role is to provide Christian practical help and support on a range of issues from welfare, finance, health, safety and social in this ever-changing industry.

Since taking over this role two years ago, I have been able to set up two additional Mission Centre’s in Northern Ireland’s ports at Ardglass and Portavogie to provide facilities for active, migrant and retired fishermen. Here in Kilkeel the completion of our refurbished centre has given the Fishermen’s Mission a firm base to work from.

Please help my son and I to raise much-needed funds to continue our mission work in Northern Ireland.

Your generosity is very much appreciated – thank you
