The 150 Anniversary of Bishop Grosseteste University College is to be launched at an altitude of 13,000 feet (4,000 metres) when I leap out of an aeroplane!

I will experience the thrill of accelerating to 120mph in 10 seconds before freefalling for around 45 seconds. If all goes to plan the rest of the fall will be at a more leisurely pace, with up to five minutes under the parachute. A little dangerous? I hope not and I'm minimising the risk by skydiving with the best of the best - The Red Devils. The Red Devils are the official parachute display team of the Parachute Regiment (the Paras) and the British Army.

As the Chair of the Governing Body why am I undertaking such a feat?  Quite simply because I have faith in BG and want to celebrate 150 years of excellence as a Higher Education Institution. I want to raise money for the BG Foundation which uses its funds to add to the quality and distinction of what we do. The Foundation, which is BG’s fundraising arm, adds much to what BG can achieve - it supports special projects that may otherwise be impossible and gives grants and scholarships to students to enhance their experience and support volunteering projects such as teaching at Valley View School, Uganda, or at Birunda Primary School for The Deaf and St Vincent’s Home for the Physically Disabled in Kenya.  The range of volunteering projects the scholarships support are varied from hospices and orphanages to schools and working with street children.

How can you show your support for my leap of faith?  My goal is to raise a minimum of £2,000 (that’s 50p for every metre of the fall). So please be generous by donating on line.  Should you wish to send a cheque then please make this payable to Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln and send it to the College at newport, Lincoln LN1 3DY marking it for the attention of Sharon Needham and 'Leap of Faith'

Thank you for showing your support.
