My story

Max was a vibrant, funny and loving boy. Everyone he met would tell you the same. He developed a brain tumour at aged four and despite valiantly trying to fight it, lost his battle just one week after his fifth birthday.

Max would have been 21 this year and to pay fitting tribute to his memory family and friends have pledged to raise £21,000. The total money will be split between two charities:The Royal Marsden, the cancer specialist hospital where Max was treated, and Disability Sport Events, a small charity that supports disabled athletes, in the UK, with getting on the road to the Paralympics.

Ellie, Max's sister, wants the money going to the Royal Marsden to support older teenagers and young adults as they will be close to the age Max would be now. The Royal Marsden has recently opened a new teenage cancer wing - The Oak Centre - designed to support teenagers and young adults and we hope half of all the money we can raise will make a huge difference to young people in their fight against cancer.

Disability Sport Events was chosen as during the latter part of his life the brain tumour caused Max to be physically disabled and we know he would have had the passion for sport that the rest of the family have! This is a very small charity and half of £21,000 would make a massive difference to supporting disabled sports in this country. In the year when the Paralympics are hosted here, again it seems a fitting tribute.

Please visit our sister site www.virginmoneygiving.com/Max21 to see the money raised going to the Royal Marsden - the running total for the Marsden is displayed on this page as money raised offline.

The English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) organises National Championships for disabled people in a variety of sports.
