Story
"Be the change you wish to see in the world"- Gandhi.
Why? For many years I have found the thought of human trafficking, of slavery existing in the world we live in, impossible to stomach, I am ashamed to admit that somehow I went from a 15 year old who researched the matter extensively and was determined to make a difference somehow, to an 18 year old who tried to avoid thinking of this horrific human made thing existing in our world at all costs. I have done nothing for far too long now, and so have you, this atrocious crime is happening to real people, someone's child, someone's sibling, someone's best friend, who have just as much of a right to live in freedom as you or me. If you are still not convinced, according to unicef 2 million children are estimated to be trafficking victims of the sex trade each year. Human trafficking is a widespread global problem, existing in many UK cities as well as in other countries all over the world. This is on your doorstep, this is the reality of the streets you walk down, and it's time to say no more. You can find more information on human trafficking here, and some (absolutely devastating) stories of human trafficking here. If you are still wanting to know more there are lots of other charities and information sources you can find from a google search.
What? Hope for Justice is a charity who aim to put an end to human trafficking once and for all, they go about this by investigating and rescuing, assisting in aftercare, working with victims to ensure perpetrators are held accountable and punished for their actions within the legal systems and campaigning.
Please do visit their website here if you have any further curiousities about where your money would be going and what they do.
And your hair? I will be donating the hair that is chopped off to The Little Princess Trust, a charity that gives wigs free of charge to children who have lost their hair. You can find out more here. This is a great charity and I urge everyone who snips 17cm or more of their hair off, natural or dyed, straight or curly to donate that hair to them too. I am guaranteeing that my hair will stay pink for atleast a week but cannot promise anything beyond this because I have prior commitments to my orchestra and I'm not sure I will be allowed to have pink hair in a concert. However obviously I cannot just glue my hair back on- particularly as I won't be in possesion of it anymore, so that will stay until it grows out. I do want to stress to those who perhaps are not my closest of friends that cutting off so much of my hair is a really big deal for me and this is not something I particularly want or am looking forward to doing, I have had hair past shoulder length (and beyond) since I was about 8. Short hair is not something that will suit me nor do me any goodness, this is a decision I have made 100% on a promise to myself to stop ignoring horrific things in the world and try to do something to help.
