Story

The big day for my first marathon is almost there: January 21st, 2011.

After months of training in different places, Istanbul, Bursa, İzmir, Eskişehir-Turkey, Lund -Sweden, Cairo-Eygpt, Dubai-UAE, Saas-Fee-Switzerland (especially trainings in Saas Fee were relevant and helpful as 2000mt above sea level and below zero degree and snow are expected conditions for the Dubai Marathon -:) I think I am ready to take the challenge.

When I decided for this challenge I always wanted it to be for a charity. A couple of years ago I heard a story from Türkan Sabancı, the richest woman in Turkey. When she was asked about her biggest fear she said “I always worry about what will happen to Metin (her son with Down syndrome) after I die”. That is exactly the same fear that my mom has, having a mentally disabled son. No matter how much support they can provide to their loved ones they still worry what will happen to them when they will not be around. I decided to dedicate my first marathon to my brother Mert who I’d like to believe has the support and raise funding for orphan disabled kids who do not have it enough.
