Story

This page has been set up in conjunction with pistonheads.com and SERV (also known as The Bloodrunners)

Lt Col' Alistair Boyle RE MBE was not only a great soldier who saw active service in The Balkans, Iraq & Afghanistan but also a Petrolhead, we've thought long and hard about how best to remember him in a fitting way and believe that SERV as a charity provide everything that he held dear. They are a direct to source charity where every penny goes directly to funding service provision. This service involves the transportation of Blood, Blood Products and Emergency Medical Supplies out of hours for the NHS at no charge, and has been proven to help save lives.

The full details of his achievements can be found on the news pages of www.pistonheads.com & on SERV(Kents) news pages http://serv-kent.moonfruit.com/#/ali-b-memorial-bike/4563117855 but in brief the intention is to create a legacy for him by funding motorcycles to be used by SERV and if possible other Bloodbike Groups to go about their vital and lifesaving work.

The original "Ali B" Memorial Hayabusa was indeed his own bike but what has become apparent is that there is the potential to do so much more. Whilst the current bike is entirely privately and corporate funded the initial hope is to be able to raise enough funding to add a second Hayabusa to work alongside the existing one. The current bike is "on call" on average two nights per week and it is hoped by adding another this can be extended to provide daytime weekend cover and to enable it to take on a new and exciting role working with SERV and other volunteers to provide critical and much needed re-supply support for the Kent Sussex & Surrey Air Ambulances enabling this service to maintain its operational readiness at the highest levels.

The initial target of £10K will fund another dedicated bike, fully equipped, insured and serviced and on the road for 3 years. Fuel will still be funded as it always is within SERV from volunteers own contributions.

If by some miracle this target is passed (and the power of pistonheads.com can never be underestimated) it is intended that a panel of trustees will administer the fund with the intention of approving funding for additional bikes nationwide operated by regional teams both under the SERV name and other registered Bloodbike charities. The panel will consist of representatives from pistonheads.com & SERV along with one of Ali B's close friends and his widow.

All funds collected will go directly into this fund to provide service, it has however been agreed that the "gift aid" element will be used as SERV Central funding to promote the charity & for the development of new groups & regions to expand the service.
