Thank you for your interest in my Cancer Research UK fund raising activity.
I lost my mother Norma to ovarian cancer in May 2010. Over a period of 40 years she suffered from four different types of cancer, the first when she was pregnant with me, so we have lived with cancer for as long as I can remember.
She was a fantastic lady whose tenacity and spirit helped her overcome the disease on three previous occasions. It was so hard for my family and kids watching a mother who had provided so much love and support over the years eventually lose her long fight with this terrible disease.
My Mum was an inspiration to me and if I have inherited even a fraction of her spirit and drive, it is time to put it to good use. I have decided to raise money for Cancer Research UK by undertaking a Kilimanjaro Trek in Autumn 2011 with my friend Helena.
Mum received fantastic care from specialist nurses and medical staff for which we will always be grateful. However my motivation with the trek is to raise money to help understand the disease better, one day resulting in a cure. Research into cures and treatments for cancer is vital, and this is my small way to help us all in the future, especially our children. Hence my charity choice of Cancer Research UK.
Did you know that 1 in 3 of us will personally suffer from some form of cancer in our lifetime? If you, your family or friends have been touched by cancer or wish to contribute to research to understand and one day find a cure, then please use my Just Giving site to donate to Cancer Research UK. All donations are welcome.
In addition to Just Giving and the trek, my friends and I are organising various fund raising activities around the Blackpool area this year. The first activity is on Friday 4th Feb 2011 at The Breck Club, Breck Road, Poulton. 7.30pm. It's a quiz night with a hotpot supper and raffle and costs £6.50 per ticket. All are welcome.
We will update this page during the year with details of other fundraising activities.
Sponsors are always needed too. Financial help or donation of equipment for the trek would be most welcome, so please contact me on melandkili2011@live.co.uk if your business can help.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
