Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

This year I'm running the London Marathon for a charity run by my sister-in-law and brother-in-law.  The charity was set up following a holiday to Kenya in 1999.  They met a coconut seller on the beach called Juma, who invited them to visit his village called Mwamanga.  They were both touched by how poverty stricken the village was and decided to help, initially, this was by sending their own personal money.

In order to raise more money they decided to set up and register the charity The Mwamanga Village Development Trust (MVDT). Since established, the charity has provided healthcare for the children including vital vacinations, built a water well, bought land and livestock to enable the villagers to farm.  Their current projects include providing new mosquito nets for the whole village, helping reduce the mortality rate as a result of malaria.  Although schooling is free in Kenya, raised funds provide children with books, uniforms and other necessities required for attendance.  this costs as little as £15 a month to send a child to primary school and £25 to secondary.  To support this MVDT run a sponsor a child scheme.

Juma himself has lost a child as a result of poverty in Kenya and tragically Jacqui and Luke (my sister-in-law and brother-in-law) tragically lost their daughter aged 3 last year.  Knowing as little as £5 can buy a mosquito net and contribute to saving lives and preventing another family from experiencing such a loss as we have, has spurred me on to support this charity and face the challenge of The London Marathon again.

As little as £5 can help these villagers......thank you for any donation you wish to contribute, every little bit helps!

MVDT stands for Mwamanga Village Development Trust. It was set up in 1998 to help support a very poor community in Kenya. Funding has paid for a well, a plot of land, mosquito nets and livestock for the villagers. There is also a sponsor a child scheme.
