<p>I'd like to give you a bit of background about the Charity I am supporting as part of my participation in the London Marathon.</p>
<p>MEDICS is an accident and emergency doctor service - The Mid Essex Doctors Immediate Care Scheme -which operates under the nationwide "BASICS" organisation. MEDICS Doctors are called out by ambulance control centres to provide emergency medical intervention at road traffic accidents, airport/ rail emergencies, agricultural/industrial accidents, fires, leisure injuries and medical emergencies.</p>
<p>MEDICS Doctors are on call 24 hours a day for 365 days each year. When a 999 call is received, a MEDICS Doctor is called out by the Essex Ambulance Service. <br><br>Each year, MEDICS Doctors attend over 250 emergencies in our county. MEDICS Doctors work on a totally voluntary basis in the community they serve, bringing specialist emergency medical care to treat the seriously ill and injured until they can be transported to an Accident and Emergency Hospital in the region. Immediate medical care saves lives - and reduces the risk of complications that follow serious injuries.</p>
<p>MEDICS is not part of the NHS and the Doctors give their time and services free. It is funded by donations from the public and commercial organisations - which is why your help is so essential.</p>
