Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride · 8 July 2018 ·

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

Our team from Martin and Co are joining the Mercedes-Benz Vans team of 80 riders who are cycling from Manchester to Blackpool (100km) on 8th July in support of Parkinson’s UK and Cancer research

Mark, Liz, Rhianne, Jayne, Paul and Wayne have all
been training through the winter and will be riding as a team to help raise funds for these 2 great charities.  If you feel you could make a donation it would be very much appreciated

We’re really not skinny cycling types, Mark and Liz managed
weekend 10 mile rides to the pub, Rhianne did the odd family ride and Jayne hadn’t been on a bike in decades.  Wayne has had a gym membership for some time, but has not exactly got what you would all value for money out of it!

Last year Mark and Liz were challenged
to try a 100km ride and Liz went on to put together a team of 50 riders who between them raised £14k for Parkinson’s UK, we were slow but we did it!!!  This year 5 of us will be representing your Martin and Co office and riding as part of the larger Mercedes Benz Vans team that Liz is again organising,
the overall team of 115 people includes riders of mixed abilities from the serious weekend warrior to those on bikes with wicker baskets.

A few of us in the team have personally seen the effects of
Parkinson’s on loved ones so we felt it needed to be a charity we continued to
support but sadly many of us have also been touched by the effects of Cancer and so we also felt that this year we should support Cancer research as well so donations raised by the main team will be split between these 2 great charities.  The 5 of us are training hard to get in to some sort of reasonable shape and have been doing so throughout the winter, Rhianne and Liz
have both had rides where they have been crying by the side of the road because it was so cold and had to call home to be rescued.  We have joined gyms, bought new bikes, started wearing lycra, set up turbo trainers in our front rooms and are going on a number of large rides before the big one on 8
th

July.

Mark and Liz have already completed the British Heart
Foundation Cotswold ride and Rhianne and Liz are doing Ride the night around London as part of their training.  Jayne has gone from using her bike to hang clothes on to now doing weekly 20 – 30 mile rides and has recently completed a ride from Vienna to Budapest.   Wayne tells us he is in training!

These are 2 great and vitally important charities that we have decided to support, which is why we are putting in so much effort with our training.  And so if you could sponsor us it will make the training all worthwhile and be greatlyappreciated….Thank you
