Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Anyone who knows me knows that I like to set myself some big challenges.  I have wanted to visit North Korea since my friend Timothy wrote a book about his visit there in 2002.  Now the opportunity has come up; not only to visit this intriguing country, but to be one of the first amateur marathon runners to run in North Korea.  (This is the first year that the race has been opened up to foreign amateur runners).

Any change in culture is instigated one step at a time.  I hope that my visit in a sporting capacity will be another small step forward to help to open the doors of this closed country through positive action.

I have been inspired by some remarkable people who have achieved some amazing challenges in the last few years, Sarah Soulie and Jess Illes to name a couple.  Its thanks to the example set by these people that i've been motivated to achieve my dream.

I am honoured to choose Macmillans as my chosen charity.  Most of us know someone who has been affected by cancer.  Macmillan provide great support to the families in their time of need.  I hope my colleagues, friends and family will be eager to encourage and support my challenge and the small effect to open doors for North Korean citizens, whilst also supporting Macmillans Charity in the UK.  I appreciate your donation, however small.  Please help me to reach my target.  I have paid for the trip in full, so all of your donation will go to the charity.
