Story
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has" --Margaret Mead
Thanks for taking the time to visit my page. I ran the 2013 London Marathon (26.2 miles) to raise money to help stop child abuse and cruelty worldwide. As part of a global team of 30 Expedia co-workers and 35,000 other people from around the world on Sunday, April 21, 2013, I was part of the largest, single-event fundraiser in the world! My team is exclusively supporting ChildLine.org; a 24/7 child abuse prevention helpline specifically for children to call anonymously.
I also ran this race to celebrate the inspiring lives of two people with tenacious spirit:
1) My feisty, loving and adventurous grandmother, Helen Carder, who died on her 81st birthday from breast cancer - 10 years ago on this coming April 2nd.
2) My friend's young, beautiful, vivacious teenage daughter, Skyler Dunn, who is 14 years old and was just diagnosed with leukemia! She just shaved her head and is enduring chemotherapy now. SHE WILL BEAT THIS! And we will help her, as "Skyler's Army", with enthusiasm, spirit and prayers!
My team is raising funds for ChildLine, a 24-hr helpline for children exposed to violence and other less fortunate circumstances. None of the funds raised will go to support causes for the people that I mentioned above. I just seek to honor them.
Our global team trained this winter for 16 weeks, 60+ training runs, 80+ hours, 420+ miles, before finishing the 26.2 mile race in about four hours each. However, the fundraising was the hardest part in my opinion.
Please support our philanthropic cause (ChildLine) by donating generously. I promise you will feel good about being a part of this effort. :)
Also let me know if your employer has a GIFT MATCHING program and whom I should contact to follow up.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer if you're from across "the Pond". So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
For more about my philanthropic cause, see www.childline.org.
So please dig deep, be generous, feel good about it and donate now! Thank you for your support!
