Story
Lupus is now recognised as an important & common illness of modern times. It's a disease in which the immune system goes 'wrong' & becomes overactive. It can affect any organ of the body, & the symptoms can be diverse including for example: fatigue, rashes, allergies, depression and kidney failure.
All ages can be affected, but the commonest sufferers are young women aged between 18 & 45. Because of this overwhelming preponderance of young women, men tend to be rather forgotten about. However, when males get lupus it is often more complex and more severe.
There's a huge amount of lupus out there being 'put up with' and awareness needs to increase hugely if these people are to be diagnosed and get some quality back into their lives. Lupus is usually 'for life' at present, having an on-going impact upon the patient, their family, friends & colleagues.
Lupus UK has a vision for a world where people with lupus can lead full & active lives. They aim to empower people by providing information about lupus & offering support so their voices can be heard & their condition diagnosed & managed effectively.
