Kilimanjaro - Rotary 2010 · 22 January 2011

The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) is farming’s oldest charity working across England and Wales. Our aim is that no-one from the farming community should face adversity alone. We provide tailored advice, access to counselling, practical and financial support, and so much more.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page to raise money the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI).

Together with my Dad, brother in law and several Rotarians, we are going to climb Kilimanjaro. Each of us have chosen a worthwhile charity for whom we want to raise vital money. This 6 day trek is entirely self-funded so all money raised goes straight to our charities.

Kilimanjaro is crowned by eternal snows, and at 19,340ft is the highest free-standing mountain in the world and dominates its landscape unlike any other mountain. Located in Tanzania, this extinct volcano looms over five eco-systems (which means we will be very hot at the base camp, and very cold at the summit) and is certainly one of the world's most impressive sights. I understand that the terrain is nothing short of dramatic and since we will be walking between 4 and 8 hours a day, we will have plenty of time to appreciate the views.

This is the same trek which the Welsh Rugby International "15 Captains", and the Chris Moyles attempted over the past year. As you may have read, altitude sickness is one of the biggest barriers to success. It can effect anyone, regardless of their physical fitness. This makes the whole event even more daunting, because despite the hours at the gym, there is no guarantee of reaching the summit.

Any sponsorship you are willing or able to give will go to a very worthy cause.

Thanks for taking the time to read and support,

Michael
