Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In April 2013, myself and a group of close family and friends will be attempting to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro! The journey will see us climb to 5,895m, and the peak of Africa's largest mountain.

The trek itself coincides with my Dads 60th birthday, so aside from raising funds for a stair lift to be fitted to the side of the mountain (last time I checked, his shiny new bus pass won't help him there), we'll be doing this in aid of Eden Valley Hospice, for which he is the Head of Finance.

Joking aside (his insurance covers helicopter evacuation), Eden Valley Hospice cares for patients, both adult and children, from the Cumbria and South West Scotland area with life-limiting illnesses. They strive to provide the highest standards of nursing and medical care, to sustain quality of life and dignity, and to provide patients with relief from pain. They also extend the same loving support to the families, friends and carers of patients, as they know that such illnesses affect whole families.

It costs almost £2.7m to run the hospice every year, for which the government funds only 23%. In order for the Hospice to keep running, £2m needs raising each year and this is where I need your help. Along with the fundraising efforts from the rest of the team, we are looking to raise £20,000 to help pay for the solar panels that were fitted to the roof of the hospice in 2012, allowing the charity to continue it's good work in a more self sufficient manner.

The trip has been completely self funded, so you can be assured that 100% of all money raised will go to support the Hospice, and not the celebratory bottle of Tanzabeer at the summit. What's more, my employer, Santander, will also go on to match any funds raised - who says all banks are bad!?!?!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now!

Thanks,

Michael
