Story
I was born in Ashbourne, so when I heard that some friends of a friend of mine from Derbyshire were planning to ride 150 miles in 1 day, I was eager to be involved: ride from where I live now, London, to where I was born, what a perfect idea. When I discovered why they were doing it, I was even more determined to be involved and by making a donation to the cause, you can be involved too. So dig deep please because we will be digging very deep on 20 July…
Jonny Wilson, the driving force behind our odyssey, has a very personal interest in the work of PSC Support because his wife suffers from Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC), a rare liver disease that has no cure. As well as liver deterioration (in some cases leading to liver failure and liver transplantation for those lucky enough to get a donor organ) PSC sufferers often have associated autoimmune diseases and also have a significant increase in the risks of bowel, liver and pancreatic cancers.
The PSC Support charity offers families like Jonny’s a lifeline. It makes available access to expert information on the disease, face-to-face Q&A sessions with leading research scientists and links to others in the same boat. Without this help sufferers can feel isolated in a sea of scary online articles.
The charity also funds research into PSC, which is vital because as the disease is so rare it’s hard to get funding from drug companies.
Run entirely by volunteers, the charity also promotes issues around PSC including organ donation. Your financial donation will enable PSC Support continue to make a real difference to families like us.
Thank you for reading about our challenge and thank you for your support!
