Story

In early February 2021, my life, my mother’s life, everything we had ever known devastatingly came crashing down from anything that resembled to be once normal. Our lives had been completely turned on our heads. The big ‘C’ had entered our world, aggressively and unapologetically, as it does, it has tried to destroy and rip apart the lives we once knew and loved.

My mother, whom has always been my mentor and my inspiration my entire life. Has raised me single handily and selflessly over the years. Often sacrificing her own needs to give me everything she never had herself. She was unstoppable, nothing would get in her way. Mum in my eyes could conquer the world. Over the years, mum has become my resilience, my mentor, my best friend and my tower of strength. I would not be the strong and independent person I am today, if it wasn’t for her.

Initially we were told mum had been diagnosed with a brain tumour. I cannot describe how the shock hits you, that comes with such a terrifying diagnosis. All of a sudden you are entered into a midfield world of complex medical terminology and unchartered worlds of the unknown. Suddenly, the mother figure who I had always regarded to my rock had her foundations kicked from beneath her. All of a sudden, we became fractured, and our worlds had come crashing down.

After two operations the tumour was successfully removed, but deemed to be plasma based, which at the time was hard enough to comprehend. It was four weeks later, we learnt of a new diagnosis. This time we were to be told it was Multiple Myeloma and that she appeared to have more than one lesion in her body.

We were told that we would need to start treatment quick, and that the chemo would be aggressive and intense. They did not lie. Here we are six months on to be told mum will need to face an even bigger battle. Her biggest yet. She will need her first stem cell transplant. This is no easy feat. Yes, we have a long hard road ahead of us and we cannot do this alone, we need your help.
That is why I am choosing to shave my head to help raise awareness for this disease and so mum and I can walk the streets bald and proud.

What is Multiple Myeloma?
Myeloma is a type of blood cancer that develops from plasma cells in the bone marrow. Myeloma is often called Multiple Myeloma as 90% of people have multiple bone lesions at the time of diagnosis.

The survival rate of living beyond 5 years is 53%.

How you can help?
I need to raise much needed funds that will go to Myeloma Australia, so they can carry out much needed research that will help, support, educate, inform and bring hope to people just like my mum.

I will be doing this to support my mum and all those who face the daily battle of living with this dreadful and debilitating disease. We need your help. Please support in any way you can. We cannot face this battle alone.

Thank you for your support.
