The Three Peaks · 10 March 2018

It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.

Story

Myself, Joe Greatorex, Joe Carey-Jenkings and Jack Read are embarking on the Three Peaks Challenge, climbing the biggest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales in 24 hours to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK and Manchester Children's Hospital, specifically Ward 84.

We are all members of Manchester Medics Football Club whom this year will be hosting NAMS, a national football tournament, in Manchester. We thought this would be a great platform to help raise some money for charity and alongside the money raised from the tournament we have started #challenge100 a challenge to all members of the club to try and raise £100 each for charity.

In 2014 we hosted the tournament and managed to raise over £10,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust. This year we are raising money for Pancreatic Cancer UK and Ward 84 of the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. Pancreatic Cancer UK is a charity determined to take on this devastating disease which has a survival rate of less than 5% after 5 years of receiving diagnosis, a rate that has hardly changed for 40 years (Pancreatic Cancer UK website). The Royal Manchester Children's Hospital is the biggest children's hospital in the country and is constantly raising money to try and provide the best care to its patients and Ward 84 in particular is the regional centre for child and adolescent cancers.

Joe, Joe, Jack and I are each hoping to raise £100 for these worthy causes, so any donations big or small would be greatly appreciated to help us reach our combined target of £400. Please give all donations for the four of us to this same page. The Three Peaks is no small feat (in fact the total ascent is 10,052 feet...) so please give us the boost we need to take on this challenge!

N.b. Just a quick note, I think due to the way JustGiving works, your donations on here will be solely going to Pancreatic Cancer UK, however whatever sum of money is raised for PCUK, our football club is matching and sending the same amount to RMCH.

(Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
