Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
I am Michael O'Kane, the director & optometrist at Specsavers Opticians on Morningside Road, Edinburgh.
My entire career has been associated with helping people see better through providing corrective lenses or referring them to the hospital eye service when more serious causes affect their vision. It's also my job to be there and help my patients' to cope when disease or old age takes their toll on their eyes' ability to see.
For a parent to discover that their child has a visual impairement and so can't see properly to read, learn, or avoid dangers, it can be devastating. - I know that even with my experience and training I would still feel somewhat at a loss on how best to care for them.
I really hope you agree with me that this local charity, which is right on our door step, is vital in the services it provides to the young people of Scotland who suffer visual impairments.
-They simply would not get this type of care anywhere else and We should all work together in the community, to ensure The Royal blind School always has the funds they need to continue serving our children.
To try and raise funds & awareness for the Royal Blind School and the fantastic services they provide, I have decided to face a geniune phobia of mine and do a sponsored Sky dive. (for those of you who don't know me, I have a mortal fear of this sort of thing!) -However I'm determined ( with your support!) to do this jump and hopefully raise £1000 (at least!) for the charity.
